Andrew Redburn - Legal Practitioner Director
Andrew's expertise in commercial matters & commercial litigation, as well as his understanding of insurance principles, coupled with sensible logic and a commercial objective will mean that you will get sensible commercial advice focused on cost effectively achieving your objective or resolving your dispute.
Andrew has developed a passion for business development and property development, and would be happy to assist you in these areas.
Relevant Experience
Andrew has worked in general legal practice and has also spent time specialising in commercial litigation and insurance litigation.
During Andrew's period in general practice he has had a varied practice consisting primarily of providing commercial services to small-medium businesses, commercial litigation, conveyancing, corporation, wills and estates and family matters.
While specialising in commercial litigation with a large national firm, Andrew primarily concentrated on leasing disputes, trade practices and misrepresentation matters, contract interpretation disputes, insolvency and general commercial litigation.
Andrew has also had experience in insurance litigation including advising national insurance companies on claims in relation to professional negligence, public liability and product liability matters as well as policy interpretation.
Prior to entering the practice of law, Andrew was a scientist having graduated from Griffith University with first class honours. It is this scientific grounding that has developed Andrew's analytical approach and his ability to comprehend varying circumstances and principles quickly.

Mark Mellick - Legal Practitioner Director
The laws relating to bodies corporate and to the development of community title schemes are very complex.
Active Lawyers and Consultants have a dedicated division focusing exclusively on community titles law.
The division is headed up by Mark Mellick, one of the partners of the firm.
For the entirety of his career Mark has practiced in community titles law, predominately advising bodies corporate.
Mark can assist bodies corporate with all aspects of their legal requirements, be it advising on their obligations under the relevant legislation, assisting them with the assignment of management rights or acting on behalf of bodies corporate in disputes.
Mark also advises developers of community schemes regarding the most appropriate way to structure the proposed development from a titling perspective and with respect to compliance issues under the legislation.

- Recognised specialist in the field of body corporate and community title law, having practiced exclusively in this area since 1997.
- Acted for bodies corporate, lot owners, resident unit managers and developers throughout Queensland, although predominantly acts for bodies corporate.
- Provided advice on all aspects of the Body Corporate and Community Management Act 1997 (“BCCMA”) and the regulation modules.
- Acted for numerous bodies corporate in relation to various issues concerning service contracts, management rights, assignment of management rights, drafting new documents, amending existing documents and advising on termination and dispute resolution.
- Acted for numerous bodies corporate and lot owners in dispute resolution applications lodged with the Office of the Commissioner for Body Corporate and Community Management or the Commercial and Consumer Tribunal.
- Acted for bodies corporate in wide range of dispute issues, particularly disputes with resident unit managers and with a focus on mediating/settling the dispute, rather than litigation.
Industry Expertise
- Dedicated a substantial amount of time to the education of body corporate managers in Queensland through training, teaching, presentations, workshops and the publication of articles.
- Regular presenter at CTIQ seminars and at body corporate management companies’ in house seminars.

Briony Taylor - Associate
Briony completed a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) and a postgraduate law degree as a Juris Doctor at the University of Queensland. Briony completed two-year articles before becoming an admitted solicitor in the Supreme Court of Queensland. Briony joined Active Lawyers in May 2006.
Briony has a particularly strong interest in business sales and purchases and has invaluable experience in the drafting, negotiation and completion of contractual documents, conducting rigorous due diligence enquiries, franchising arrangements and leasing.
Briony has represented clients in a wide range of commercial transactions and activities, including:

Lisa Smith
Lisa is our Office Manager and is responsible for the efficient running of the office, including implementation of innovative solutions to streamline our processes.
In our practice we adopt many innovative technologically enhanced systems, to assist us to maintain our competitive pricing structure.
Lisa has been the office manager for the firm for the last 3 years, and has previously worked in legal practices in the ACT and Queensland. |
